A Brief History Of Rancho Cucamonga

Originally home to the native Tongva people, Rancho Cucamonga was explored by the Spanish in the 1770s and granted as a Mexican land grant in 1839 to Tiburcio Tapia, a wealthy politician and merchant. Tapia raised cattle and founded the first winery in California. Since then, Rancho Cucamonga has become known for its location along the historic Route 66, and remnants of the famous road can still be seen. Rancho Cucamonga is also known for agriculture, including olives, peaches, and grapes.
